Potassium permanganate; the survivors

One week ago I treated my pond with potassium permanganate in the hope that it would kill the few trichodina I had seen on one of my fish and in the expectation that it would also kill of most of the other protozoa and small creatures in my pond and filters.

So imagine my surprise when I found all of these small creatures alive and well in the brushings of 5 pieces of kaldnes from one of my nexus units this afternoon. I could not get good pictures of all of these creatures because some were moving about too fast, but I wanted to post a picture showing the breadth of life that had survived my potassium permanganate treatment. I am fairly confident (though not certain) that all 24 pictures are of different species.

Before anyone asks, no I did not bypass my filters during the treatment. And no, I did not wait the recommended 30 minutes before adding the potion to the pond.

Anyone care to draw any conclusions from this?

Guy
